Warm ups are part of our running routines which can get easily neglected in the rush to get out of the door. However, they are super important and shouldn’t be overlooked…
A warm up doesn’t need to take long – you basically just want to ensure that blood is flowing to your muscles ready for exercise. If you make sure that the start of your run is nice and gentle as well, rather than launching straight into a sprint that will also help.
Make sure that whatever warm up you do is specific to the run you are doing – if you are doing a speed session you might want to incorporate some more sprints, or if you are doing a trail session you might want to spend more time warming up your ankles in anticipation of bumpy paths…
