It's on the impact of COVID-19 restrictions on female endurance runners and how their experiences compare to that of non-exercisers.

To take part you need to be female, UK based, over the age of 18 and either an endurance runner or a non-exerciser πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈ

First run in a while πŸŽ‰πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈ . I did First run in a while πŸŽ‰πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈ

I didn't go running last week as it was just soooo cold β˜ƒοΈ
.
I have Raynaud's Syndrome (a circulatory disorder) and when it is really cold I end up in so much pain when I go outside and somehow even if I wrap up well I get even colder when I run (probably because of the added wind chill) and it gets so painful I can barely run and I end up with really sensitive hands and feet which hurt to touch anything even when I've warmed up 😒
.
So all in all I decided just to do extra strength and stretching and wait for it to warm up a bit β˜€οΈ
.
So even though it was rainy this morning I really enjoyed my run and it was so nice to go out and not completely freeze 😊

I had planned to do an interval session round by the river but that clearly wasn't going to happen due to flooding... Instead I did a fartlek session on the roads which worked well instead πŸ˜ŠπŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈ

It wasn't exactly the off road run I had planned but it seems that lots the off road places round here are underwater so I guess trail runs will need to wait...
.
On the plus side I did see some snowdrops which had flowered so even if the weather looks set to be really cold next week spring does seem to be on the way 🌱🀞

We all know that we should do strength training but have you ever considered why this is?

A few reasons are:

It reduces the risk of injuries by strengthening your muscles and reducing any muscle imbalances you might have

It increases your running speed by helping you to generate more explosive power
.
It increases your endurance by increasing your resistance to fatigue
.
Strength training doesn't need to be complicated or time consuming - just doing a few short sessions a week will pay off in the long term and make you a more well rounded runner 😊

I've done longer speed sessions recently but it's been a while since I've done a proper 'track' session so I decided today would be the day 😊 Obviously of all days to do this it was super windy so one direction was really hard work and felt like I was barely moving but I guess the extra resistance is good πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Are you managing to keep going with them or are you waiting until the gyms reopen again?

I'm finding it helps to have a focus to my workouts - I'm focusing on single leg strength which is really helping my running and on basic exercises like these single arm rows to help improve my posture 😊
.
I definitely miss having a barbell and heavier weights to work with but I'm trying to do things which will help in the long term to keep me motivated πŸ’ͺ

Even though I live in the middle of the city there is a route near me along trail-y paths by the river which is the perfect loop for intervals and is where I do most of my more structured speed sessions 😊

It's safe to say I was very glad I wore trail shoes this morning so the mud slowed me down slightly less πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I headed out along the roads while the sun came up and then came back along the river and it was so calm and still πŸŒ…
.
I love running first thing before most people are out as it is so peaceful and especially at the moment you don't have to worry so much about avoiding people. Although I do wear a buff round my neck partly for warmth but also to put over my nose and mouth when I pass other people 😷
